Davin Liu — The Bear and the Wolf

There was once a big Black Bear who lived in a cave. He would hum with the birds and play with the squirrels. They, of course, were afraid of him. He never noticed. One day, he was stumbling down the river, humming his favourite tune. Suddenly, a moan made him turn around. A bleeding wolf was lying on the ground. When the Black Bear inched closer out of curiosity, the wolf was terrified. "Please let me live. I'm a father," the wolf lied. Without hesitation, the Black Bear brought the wolf back to his cave. The grizzly bears watched in incredulity. "How stupid was the Black Bear", they muttered under their breaths. Every day, the Black Bear would bring back food and water for the wolf. The wolf eventually became bored of this life, and sought his escape. As the wolf slowly recovered under the Black Bear's care, he devised a plan. When the wolf recovered, he continued to pretend to be sick to receive free care from the Black Bear. One day, when the Black Bear fell asleep, the wolf sneaked up behind him and tried to kill him. But his paws could only tickle the Black Bear's thick skin, and the Black Bear started giggling in his sleep. The noise woke the grizzly bears, who came to check on the Black Bear. The wolf tried to pretend to sleep again, he was not fast enough. The grizzly bears drove the wolf out of the cave, and warned him to stay out of the forest. The wolf was never seen again. Judge someone by their inner qualities instead of their appearance.
