Emily Dickinson — Letter 227 1860 - no ms. Mrs. J. G. Holland

How is your little Byron? Hope he gains his foot without losing his genius. Have heard it ably argued that the poet's genius lay in his foot - as the bee's prong and his song are concomitant. Are you stronger than these? To assault so minute a creature seems to me malign, unworthy of Nature - but the frost is no respecter of persons. I should be glad to be with you, or to open your letter. Blossoms belong to the bee, if needs be by habeas corpus.                                                                                                          Emily.
