Your Task For this assignment, you will post a revised or final draft of an application essay or a letter of introduction on the Genius platform. Then you will provide feedback to a minimum of three other writers, using the platform's annotation functions. The steps listed below will guide you through this process and the attached annotations will provide additional suggestions or links to useful information.Step 1: Create a Genius account.Choose "sign up" on the Genius homepage, and then complete the directions that follow. We recommend that you use your Google login information to create your Genius account since this login account will be used for school projects. Your username should also be selected with school in mind. Keep it appropriate and professional! Once your account is created, you can go to your profile page to add an image or introduction. Your profile page is also where you will find all of the pages, annotations, and suggestions that you add to Genius in the future.Step 2: Follow your teacher on Genius.On the Genius homepage, search for your teacher's Genius username. Once you've found your teacher's user page, choose "follow." This will enable your teacher to follow your account, too--an important step if you want credit for any of your work! Also notice that you will be able to message your teacher directly on Genius now that you've found her user page. If you've selected an unusual username, message your teacher right now to identify yourself.Step 3: Upload your writing.At the top of the Genius homepage or your Profile page, select "Add Song." Then list your name (or username) as the "Artist" and give your writing a title, if it doesn't already have one. For album, list Personal Statements ERWC 2015-16. This will add your writing to the collection of personal statements and letters of introduction submitted for this assignment, which will make it possible for others to provide feedback on your writing. Finally, copy and paste your writing into the box entitled "Text," and hit "Submit."Step 4: Become familiar with annotation functions on Genius.The Genius annotation platform enables users to comment on specific words or lines of text, using images, video clips, text, and/or links. It also encourages collaboration by allowing users to add suggestions and replies to previous annotations, and awarding users with Genius IQ based on the quality and frequency of their annotations. Start by reading the "Become a Genius" guide that explains all of Genius's functions.Step 5: Provide feedback to other writers. On the Genius homepage, search for "Personal Statements ERWC 2015-16." When you select this "album," links to all of the writing submitted for this assignment will appear in a list. Select one of the links and begin feedback!
